Can I pawn a phone or electronics?
Yes, many pawnshops accept smartphones, laptops, tablets, cameras and watches, but unlike gold the valuation is strict: 30–50% of market price, only working devices with documents (box, receipt, IMEI), usually models from the last 2–3 years. The rate is higher than for gold and the term short (1–2 months), because electronics lose value fast.
Pawning electronics suits small, very short-term needs: 300–1,500 AZN for a few weeks. The risk for the pawnshop is high (stolen devices, locked phones, fast depreciation), so the valuation is low and the rate high. Often selling the phone and buying a new one later is cheaper than pawning, but if you do not want to lose the item, the pawnshop is the only route. What to watch for?
- ✓ Back up all data and sign out of accounts before pawning; the pawnshop inspects the device and your data is at risk.
- ✓ The box and receipt raise the valuation by 10–20%; keep them.
- ✓ Do the monthly arithmetic: a 400 AZN loan on a 1,000 AZN phone at 5% a month is 20 AZN a month; if you do not redeem within two months, the phone is gone.
- ✓ Pawning electronics does not show in the Credit Bureau, but it does not build history either; if you need history, choose a bank product.

Can I pawn a phone bought on credit or instalments?
Legally the phone may be pledged to the lender until fully paid; pawnshops do not check, but you end up owing two parties. Not recommended.
Does the pawnshop look at the phone's data?
The pawnshop only checks that it works, but the device is in its hands. Wiping or encrypting your data is your responsibility.
How are laptops and cameras valued?
